Celebrating International Human Rights Day in Scotland
Including; the latest from our website; more news from our partners; reflections on world events; and a round-up of all of our 100 Days of The Green Transition articles
The final couple months of 2024 so far have been characterised by social shifts and massive political transformations both nationally and internationally. This year, as war in Europe and the Middle East continues, so does the call for a better future this Human Rights Day.
This day is dedicated to promoting awareness of human rights, celebrating achievements, and encouraging action to uphold and advance human rights globally. On this day, nations stand united in their commitment to safeguarding rights for all.
Here in Scotland, various organisations, including the Human Rights Consortium Scotland, have called on the Scottish government to take further steps in advancing the Scottish Human Rights Bill, which aims to strengthen protections across the country.
Meanwhile, people and organisations are making sure their voices are heard, through actions like the #BringBackTheBill gathering (which took place outside Holyrood earlier today), highlighting the ongoing push for a human rights framework that prioritises justice, equality, and the dignity of every individual in Scotland.
And, in recognition of Human Rights Day today, we’re sharing some of our partners’ reporting on world events, as well as local actions and human rights stories, alongside our usual content.
