We’re excited to share the publications who are taking part in the Scottish Beacon
At The Scottish Beacon, we are building a collaborative Scotland-wide network, connecting independently-run local and hyperlocal newsrooms serving urban and rural communities.
The Scottish Beacon is a collaborative journalism project, which aims to strengthen the independent local news sector and help build sustainability for community-based public interest news providers.
One of the reasons we set out to launch a collaborative journalism project, was because we saw how much value there is in connecting up publishers. Whenever we got to meet others working in the same industry, something positive always happened. Independent publishers truly understand the challenges others face, and often have solutions to share.
That’s why were were so excited to meet others the length and breadth of the country – from Shetland in the north to Dumfries and Galloway in the south, from Argyll in the west to Fife in the East. We hope to continue to grow, welcoming in more publishers as we go.
Why are we doing this?
Collaborative journalism is an opportunity for local independent publishers to maximise their resources, produce stronger content, amplify their reach, unite participants with diverse expertise, and create a positive impact.
We want to celebrate Scotland’s local communities and shine a light on the stories that emerge from them, that too often go unheard.
